
The Chairman of Awgu Local Government, Hon. Uchenna Okolo, represented by the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Stanley Ezediuto, PhD, hosted a delegation from the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project for a meeting with local livestock farmers. The event was aimed at boosting the commercial potential of livestock farming through targeted government initiatives.

During his opening remarks, Hon. Ezediuto highlighted key programs designed to enhance the productivity of farmers in Awgu, emphasizing the focus on piggery, goat rearing, poultry, and other livestock sectors. He stressed the importance of farmers embracing these government-driven initiatives to drive sustainable growth and improve economic outcomes.



Dr. Ifeyinwa Nnajieze, State Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, outlined the core objectives of the L-PRES program. She explained that the initiative is designed to provide farmers with the necessary tools, training, and resources to enhance livestock farming practices and ensure long-term stability in the sector. As part of the program, plans were announced for selected personnel to undergo specialized training in Artificial Insemination at a facility in Zaria, which would further improve breeding techniques and productivity in the state.


Dr. Nnajieze also provided guidance on the registration process, urging farmers to submit clear photos of their farms as part of the program’s documentation requirements.


During the interactive session, several important questions were raised by participants. In response, Dr. Nnajieze assured potential and existing farmers that all interested parties would be given access to registration forms and comprehensive guidance on how to join the program. She further explained that the initiative would not only focus on training experienced farmers but also equip newcomers with essential skills and knowledge, including access to business development strategies, such as loans and credit facilities.


The session came to an end with a vote of thanks from HRH Igwe M.O. Egbo, who expressed appreciation to the L-PRES team for their visit and extended goodwill of Ndi Awgu to the state leadership. He encouraged continued collaboration between the local government and L-PRES for the betterment of farmers in the LGA.


Other notable attendees at the event included the Local Government Secretary, Rt. Hon. Nelson Uduji, Hon. Ndubuisi F. Nwaudeigwe, Head of Agriculture for Awgu LGA, and Mr. Madu Maxwell, among others.
