Hon. Onwuegbu expressed the committee’s commitment to supporting legislative measures that foster the revitalization of Lake Chad. The minister reciprocated by assuring the committee of a harmonious working relationship, crucial for advancing shared goals like the preservation of Lake Chad’s ecosystem and livelihoods of over 30 million people depending on its resources.

Minister Utsev, renowned for his contributions to water resource management and infrastructure development, has consistently championed initiatives aimed at reversing the degradation of the Lake Chad Basin. His efforts align with global and regional programs, such as the African Development Bank’s framework for mobilizing technical and financial resources to rehabilitate the basin, which has seen a dramatic reduction in size due to climate change and human activity.

This collaboration underscores the federal government’s dedication to addressing environmental and socio-economic challenges in the Lake Chad Basin, as part of broader regional and international partnerships. Such initiatives are pivotal for ensuring the sustainable development and security of affected communities in Nigeria and neighboring countries.
