The decision was reached at the end of the forum’s fourth meeting for 2025, held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday. According to a communique signed by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, who chairs the forum, the Deputy National Secretary will assume the role of Acting National Secretary pending the nomination and ratification of a substantive officer from the South East Zone at the party’s next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

This development comes on the heels of the Supreme Court’s judgment, which party insiders believe has paved the way for the party to reassert internal control and restore constitutional order to its leadership structure.

The PDP Governors’ Forum also used the opportunity to reiterate its commitment to shield the party from external infiltration and unholy alliances, while welcoming genuine joiners who align with its ideology. “The Forum reiterates its position taken in Asaba on the issue of the National Secretary,” the statement read, adding that the decision to replace the Wike-backed Secretary was in line with party discipline and internal cohesion.

In a show of solidarity with one of its own, the forum condemned the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, throwing its weight behind embattled Governor Siminalayi Fubara. “We restate our solidarity with His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara… and reiterate our commitment to stand with him till the end,” the governors declared.

The forum also raised concerns over the worsening insecurity across the nation, pointing to fresh attacks in Plateau, Borno, Katsina, and Edo States. In a call to action, the governors advocated for a bottom-up security strategy that empowers subnational units to build effective community defense mechanisms.

In other key decisions, the forum announced that the party’s National Convention will be held from August 28 to 30, 2025, in Kano. The Zoning and Convention Committees were also constituted, with Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri, and Adamawa Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, chairing the two bodies respectively. Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, was named Vice Chairman of the Convention Committee, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Named Secretary of the committee.

The meeting was attended by all serving PDP governors and deputy governors, including host Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, in a show of party unity.
