In less than two years, Governor Mbah’s aggressive push in infrastructural development is not only reshaping Enugu’s physical environment but also transforming the everyday lives of our people,” said Otiji. Highlighting the administration’s accomplishments, Otiji detailed the completion of over 96 urban roads, major flyovers and bridges – including those at Amechi and Ugwuaji as well as key commercial streets like Emeka Ebila, D’Angelo Way, and New Haven Market/Phone Village.
Rural routes such as the Amechi Idodo-Amagunze road and the Owo – Ubahu – Ama Nkanu – Neke – Ikem Dual Carriageway are unlocking new markets and boosting agricultural productivity. An additional 141 road projects are currently underway, featuring integrated drainage systems, street lights, and walkways to enhance mobility and safety.
In the healthcare sector, the Commissioner reported the construction of 260 primary healthcare centres, one per ward, 25 of which have already been digitized to support real-time monitoring and electronic medical records. On education, Engr. Gerald Otiji emphasized that one-third of the state budget is allocated to the sector, exceeding global standards. Initiatives include the development of Smart Green Schools that feature AI, robotics, and virtual reality to modernize learning for over 300,000 students by 2025, as well as the establishment of vocational schools and experiential learning centres to bridge the skills gap.
The Commissioner also noted ongoing efforts to make Enugu a premier destination for leisure and business tourism. Projects include the Presidential Hotel, a Five-Star Hotel, a world-class International Conference Centre, and green recreation spaces like Eze Park and Unity Park. Vocational centres and hostels are being built to support skill acquisition and boost employment in the hospitality sector.
Today, roads that were once riddled with potholes are now smooth corridors of trade and transport. Access to health and education has vastly improved, and jobs are being created in multiple sectors, Otiji said. He concluded with a message of assurance: “Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is not just laying bricks and mortar; he is laying the foundation for a legacy of growth, equity, and economic prosperity.”
