Aisha Yesufu Vows to Oppose Peter Obi if He Becomes Running Mate

Prominent Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu has declared that she will actively work against any presidential ticket that features Peter Obi as a running mate in the 2027 general election. Yesufu’s stance stems from her concerns about the tendency to relegate capable individuals, particularly women, to deputy positions.

In a recent video posted on X, Yesufu expressed her determination to oppose any ticket with Peter Obi as a running mate, citing the need for capable leaders to occupy top positions. She emphasized that Peter Obi, with his leadership abilities, would be better suited as a presidential candidate rather than a running mate.

Yesufu highlighted the tendency to put women or less prominent figures in deputy positions, suggesting that capable individuals like Peter Obi should lead instead. This sentiment aligns with her long-standing concerns about women’s roles in politics, where she believes that women face significant challenges in vying for elective offices due to factors such as lack of financial empowerment and unfriendly political environments.

Notably, Peter Obi has declared his intention to run for president in 2027, which might align with Yesufu’s preference for him to lead rather than be a running mate. Yesufu’s support for Obi is not absolute, however, as she has stated that she would leave him if a better candidate emerges in 2027.
