In an official statement, Comrade Tgst Ikechukwu Umeh, Senior Special Assistant to the Chairman on SDGs and Diaspora Affairs, described the development as a moment of great excitement and deep responsibility for the local administration. According to the statement, the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government, Hon. Uchenna Okolo, widely described as a visionary leader, has graciously approved the hosting of the summit, which is tentatively scheduled to hold from Wednesday, November 19 to Saturday, November 22, 2025.

Far from being a ceremonial ritual filled with speeches and fanfare, the summit is envisioned as a bold, purposeful, and strategic platform aimed at unlocking Awgu’s economic potential, attracting sustainable investments, and reuniting the global diaspora with homegrown development aspirations.

“We envision this summit as a turning point that will echo across our communities worldwide and spark an ambitious drive toward achieving real, measurable outcomes projected at over $500 million in direct foreign investment, significantly boosting Awgu’s local GDP, fostering an enabling environment for industries, and creating thousands of meaningful jobs for our brilliant and energetic youth,” Umeh stated.

He noted that the summit’s focus areas include rural industrialization, agro-innovation, tourism, real estate development, and the growth of digital enterprise — all designed to position Awgu as an emerging frontier for sustainable development.

“This summit is about harnessing our untapped resources. It’s about positioning Awgu as a frontier for rural industrialization, agro-innovation, tourism, real estate development, and digital enterprise. More importantly, it is about bringing our diaspora community closer to home in ways that are both emotional and economically productive,” he added.

However, the Office of the Executive Chairman emphasized that realizing this bold vision is not the responsibility of a single office or a few individuals alone. Rather, it requires collective will, shared commitment, and a synergy of purpose among stakeholders across sectors.

“That is why we are reaching out to you, dear colleagues, to join hands with us as we lay the foundation for a future Awgu that is prosperous, inclusive, and globally connected,” Umeh appealed.

He further revealed that the Executive Chairman has already demonstrated his full support for the project through concrete actions, urging all stakeholders to seize the moment.

“Now, the torch is in our hands. The time to hit the ground running is now. Let us pool our expertise, networks, and passions to give life to this grand vision,” the statement read.

Local analysts say that if successful, the summit could become a model for other local governments seeking to unlock new streams of foreign direct investment and diaspora engagement to tackle local challenges and drive job creation.

With its ambitious target of over $500 million in investments and thousands of projected new jobs, the summit’s organizers are calling on all stakeholders — from policy leaders and investors to community groups and the diaspora — to become active partners in building what they describe as “something extraordinary.”

“Together, we can light a beacon of rural transformation that the rest of Enugu State and indeed Nigeria will look to as a model. Let’s make history not just by what we say, but by what we build. Awgu is rising. Let us rise with her. In unity and progress, we shall achieve more,” Umeh concluded.
