Uche Okolo, has urged residents to take full advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) as the people’s “voice and pathway to their collective future.”
In a statement released through his Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, the council chairman emphasized that voter registration is not only a constitutional right but also a civic responsibility that guarantees citizens the power to shape governance and determine leadership across all levels.
“NDI AWGU, your PVC is your voice. The road to your future is now,” Hon. Okolo declared, while encouraging all eligible residents who have not yet registered to seize the opportunity.
According to INEC, the physical voter registration exercise is currently ongoing at the INEC Office in Awgu Local Government Area from Mondays to Fridays, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The exercise is free of charge.
Hon. Okolo particularly called on first-time voters and those who have not been captured in the INEC database to participate in the exercise, describing it as a defining moment in history.
“This is the time for Ndi Awgu, especially first-time voters and those who have not been captured in the INEC database, to rise to the call of history. Democracy thrives when the people participate fully, and your vote is the key,” he said.
The chairman further appealed to community leaders, youth groups, women’s associations, and civil society organizations across the local government to intensify sensitization and mobilization efforts in order to ensure a massive turnout.
With this call, the Awgu council leadership reiterates its commitment to strengthening democratic participation and fostering an inclusive political system where every citizen has a voice and a stake in governance.
