The Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uche Okolo, has welcomed residents into the month of September with renewed assurances of people-centered governance, inclusive growth, and developmental projects that align with the transformational vision of Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
In a statement released through his Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, the Chairman extended warm greetings to Ndi Awgu, praying for God’s blessings, peace, and prosperity throughout the “ember months.” He described September as a month of renewed call to purpose, stressing that it reminds Ndi Awgu of the power of unity, progress, and shared responsibility. “I reaffirm my sincere commitment to building a more prosperous, inclusive, and peaceful Awgu, aligning fully with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s grassroots inclusive vision,” Hon. Okolo said.
Highlighting the progress of his administration, the Council Boss outlined transformative projects currently reshaping the socio-economic landscape of Awgu. These include the One Ward, One Kilometer Road Project, which involves the construction of durable access roads across all 11 wards including those leading to the Awgu Smart Green Schools, the “Awgu Water for All” initiative that delivers solar-powered boreholes to underserved and remote communities to ensure safe drinking water, and the Solar Street Light Project, which is illuminating rural areas to enhance security, stimulate evening commerce, and improve social life. He also mentioned the campaign to end open defecation by 2025, which has so far seen the distribution of over 2,000 Sato pan toilets and the training of local artisans on smart sanitation technologies, fostering cleaner and healthier environments. In addition, the Awgu Smart Farm Project is empowering youths and women with modern farming methods to boost food security, create jobs, and strengthen sustainable livelihoods.
Hon. Okolo emphasized that his administration’s policies and programs are designed to complement the broader vision of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, particularly in infrastructure, education, agriculture, and technology. He stressed that Awgu LGA is strategically positioning itself as a partner in driving Enugu State’s socio-economic growth.
The Chairman urged Ndi Awgu to remain united, peaceful, and security-conscious, noting that meaningful development thrives only where there is collaboration between government and the people. “Let us march into September with renewed hope, determination, and unity of purpose. Together, we will build the Awgu of our dreams — a community of dignity, shared prosperity, and lasting peace,” he affirmed.
In closing, Hon. Okolo offered prayers for Awgu, Enugu State, and Nigeria at large, wishing all residents a productive and fulfilling month.
