The governor made the assertion during a pre-launch inspection tour of the over 300-bed quaternary healthcare facility, where he expressed satisfaction with the quality of the hospital’s infrastructure, cutting-edge medical equipment and advanced digital systems.

Mbah said the hospital would not only transform specialist healthcare delivery in Enugu but also position the state as a major destination for medical tourism in Nigeria.

According to him, the facility is being established to attract highly skilled medical professionals from across the world while creating opportunities for Enugu-trained doctors and other healthcare professionals to build their careers at home.

The governor further disclosed that several qualified medical practitioners of Enugu origin currently practising abroad had already indicated interest in returning to the state to work at the hospital and contribute to the development of the healthcare sector.

He noted that the facility would help address the challenge of brain drain by providing an enabling environment where medical professionals can deploy their expertise while contributing to the growth of the state’s healthcare system.

Mbah also expressed confidence that the hospital would significantly reduce the number of Nigerians travelling abroad in search of advanced medical treatment by bringing sophisticated specialist healthcare services closer to the people.

During the inspection, the governor toured several specialised departments and treatment centres, including the Precision Oncology and Nuclear Medicine unit, specialised surgery theatres, Intensive Care Units, Advanced Diagnostics and Imaging, and Renal Care and Dialysis facilities.

Other areas inspected included the Cancer Centre, Heart and Vascular Centre, Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Centre, Neuroscience Centre and Renal Centre.

The Enugu International Hospital operates as a comprehensive quaternary healthcare facility with more than 300 beds and is equipped to provide advanced specialist medical services in line with global standards.

With its combination of sophisticated technology, specialised treatment centres and plans to attract top medical professionals, the facility is expected to mark a significant milestone in Enugu State’s ambition to build a modern healthcare system and establish the state as a leading medical tourism destination.

Enugu is not just building a hospital; it is building a healthcare ecosystem designed to bring advanced medicine closer to Nigerians and make world-class treatment accessible at home.
