The Adhoc Committee is made up of lawmakers from the House Standing Committees on Student Loans, Scholarship and Higher Education Financing, Banking, Anti-Corruption, and University Education.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi, who represents Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency, explained that the exercise was a fact-finding mission aimed at identifying challenges and proposing solutions, rather than a witch-hunt.
He noted that the NELFUND initiative is part of the current administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, designed to provide financial assistance to indigent students whose parents may not be able to sponsor them through tertiary education.
Hon. Nnamchi urged participants to be forthcoming in their submissions, stressing that the objective of the investigative hearing was to guarantee fairness and objectivity in the operations of NELFUND.
He further disclosed that the committee’s findings from the public hearings conducted across the country would be compiled and submitted to the House of Representatives for legislative action when plenary resumes next week.
