ASUU DECLARES TWO-WEEK WARNING STRIKE, DIRECTS LECTURERS TO WITHDRAW SERVICES NATIONWIDE

Announcing the decision at a press conference held at the union’s national secretariat, University of Abuja, ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, said the warning strike would serve as a window for the government to conclude all ongoing negotiations with the union.

According to Piwuna, the union’s patience has been overstretched by the government’s lack of commitment to implementing agreements previously reached. He added that the warning strike is intended to compel the authorities to take the union’s demands more seriously before resorting to a total shutdown of academic activities across universities.

“We have been patient long enough. The government has shown insincerity in our negotiations, and this has made it necessary to take action,” Piwuna stated.

Consequently, ASUU has directed all its members across universities in the country to withdraw their services effective from 12 midnight, in full compliance with the strike directive.

The declaration raises fresh concerns over another potential disruption in Nigeria’s public university system, which has suffered repeated setbacks due to industrial actions in recent years.
