
Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu has officially assumed duty as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, succeeding IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, who served with distinction as the 22nd indigenous IGP from June 19, 2023, to February 24, 2026.

IGP Disu brings a wealth of operational, investigative, intelligence, and administrative experience spanning over three decades in the Nigeria Police Force. His extensive academic credentials include an MSc in Entrepreneurship from the National Open University of Nigeria (2023), MSc in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University (2022), Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation and Criminal Intelligence from the University of Lagos (2019), MSc in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University (2010), PGD in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lagos State University (2000), and a BA in English Education from Lagos State University (1990).

Ag. IGP Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. Until his appointment, he served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos. His previous notable postings include:

A distinguished member of professional bodies including the International Academy of Forensics, National Association of Investigative Specialists (USA), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), and the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Ag. IGP Disu also successfully led Nigeria’s first police contingent to the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) during the Darfur crisis in 2005.
An accomplished judoka, he has earned his third black belt and has won numerous medals, including a silver medal at the 2022 US Open Judo Championships. He also served as National Chairman of the Nigeria Police Judo Association.
In assuming office, Ag. IGP Disu reaffirmed his commitment to consolidating existing reforms, enhancing internal security, strengthening community partnerships, and advancing the Force’s mandate of protecting lives and property in line with global best practices.
The Nigeria Police Force also expressed profound appreciation to the immediate past IGP, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for his invaluable contributions to the growth, modernisation, and strengthening of the Force.
