A new chapter has begun for the (APC) in following the emergence of Dr. Martins Chukwunweike as the party’s State Chairman.
Dr. Chukwunwaike was elected during the APC State Congress held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in Enugu, in what party stakeholders described as a decisive and unifying process aimed at strengthening internal cohesion ahead of future electoral contests.

Reacting to the development, the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, congratulated the new chairman, describing his emergence as timely and well-deserved. In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, Okolo noted that Chukwunwaike’s leadership capacity, competence, and longstanding commitment to party growth positioned him as the right figure to steer the APC at this critical period.
According to the Awgu council boss, the election of an Awgu indigene as state party chairman reflects growing recognition of the zone’s contributions to party development and grassroots mobilization. He expressed confidence that the new leadership would consolidate unity within the party and reposition it strategically across the state.
Okolo also commended the Governor of Enugu State, , for what he described as an inclusive leadership style that encourages broad participation in the political process. He emphasized that Awgu had earlier demonstrated loyalty during the local government APC congress, where stakeholders unanimously endorsed the governor.
Reaffirming Awgu’s political stance, Okolo declared that the people of the area remain resolute in delivering full support in the 2027 general elections, describing it as a continuation of their partnership and commitment to sustained political stability.
Describing Dr. Chukwunwaike as “tested and trusted,” the chairman assured the new state executive of his total cooperation, expressing optimism that under the new leadership, the APC in Enugu State would witness renewed momentum, strengthened internal democracy, and improved grassroots engagement.
