Enugu Police Arrest Four in Raid on Criminal Hideouts, Recover Stolen Phones and Suspected Cannabis

The has arrested four suspected criminals and recovered stolen mobile phones and substances believed to be cannabis sativa during coordinated raids on criminal hideouts in the state.

The operations, carried out as part of the Command’s ongoing crime-fighting strategy, targeted identified black spots in Enugu metropolis and its environs.

Police operatives attached to the Central Police Station (CPS), working in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch, on March 1, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., raided a hideout along the Holy Ghost Rail Line. During the operation, two suspects identified as Nnachetam Didiugwu, 20, and Ogbu Maduabuchi, 22, were apprehended.

According to the police, the suspects, who have no fixed residential address, are notorious for snatching bags and valuables from unsuspecting members of the public, particularly during evening hours. Four mobile phones of different brands, Honour, Vivo, Tecno and Itel, were recovered from them, alongside wraps of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa. The suspects reportedly confessed to stealing the phones from passersby.

In a related development, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad on February 28, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., stormed another criminal hideout at Eke Obinagu, Emene, during a routine crime prevention patrol. Two additional suspects, Eze Chukwuemeka, 25, and Isiaka Musa, 25, were arrested, with a large quantity of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa recovered from the scene.

Police authorities disclosed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices and recover additional exhibits. The suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining proactive measures aimed at ridding Enugu State of criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents.

The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to promptly report suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station.
