In a signed statement by SP Daniel Ndukwe, mnipr, mnisma, Police Public Relations Officer, the police reported that the 30-year-old victim was attacked on the night of March 14 while returning home from a neighbour’s house along a familiar path in Amokwo-Affa. The suspect reportedly ambushed her from behind, armed with a cutlass, before forcing her to the ground, attempting to strangle her, and covering her mouth to silence her cries.

The assailant then allegedly dragged the victim into an uncompleted building, threatened to kill her if she resisted, and raped her, leaving her with multiple injuries.

The victim managed to report the ordeal around 6:15 a.m. on March 15, prompting a swift response from operatives of the Affa Police Division, who arrested the suspect. The victim was immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention. Investigators also recovered critical evidence at the scene, including the cutlass used in the attack and clothing bearing suspected blood and seminal stains.

The suspect has reportedly confessed to the crime. Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, mspsp, has ordered a thorough investigation and assured that the suspect will be arraigned in court upon completion of the probe.

Describing the incident as “deeply disturbing and unacceptable,” CP Giwa urged residents to remain vigilant, watch out for one another, and report suspicious activities to prevent future tragedies.
