
The Member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji-River Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu, on Wednesday attended the burial ceremony of late Mrs. Victoria Obasi, popularly known as Mama Odoewu Igbo, in Mpu, Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The deceased, Mrs. Obasi, was the mother of Chief Chukwudi Obasi (Odoewu), a well-known community figure.


Hon. Onwuegbu was accompanied. by his wife, Barr. (Mrs.) Stella Onwuegbu, alongside Senior Legislative Aide, Hon. Barr. Peter Ajah; Hon. Boni Uchendu (SLA); Hon. Emeka Omera (SLA); Engr. Ifeanyichukwu Chukwu, Liaison Officer for Awgu; Hon. Michael Okibe (SSA); Hon. Emeka Anikwelu (SSA); Hon. Onyee Nwafor (SSA); and other members of his team.

On arrival at the community, the federal lawmaker was received by the bereaved family led by Chief Chukwudi Obasi, before being ushered into the family compound where sympathisers had gathered for the funeral rites.

Speaking during his condolence visit, Hon. Onwuegbu expressed deep sympathy with the family, describing the death of Mrs. Obasi as a painful loss not only to her immediate family but also to the wider community that benefitted from her presence and influence. He urged the bereaved to take solace in the inevitability of death while encouraging them to uphold the values and legacy she left behind.

He also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of her soul and for divine strength for the family to bear the loss.

The burial ceremony attracted a large turnout of relatives, associates, community members, and well-wishers from within and outside the area, reflecting the esteem the late matriarch enjoyed during her lifetime.

Traditional rites and cultural observances featured prominently in the funeral proceedings, marking a solemn but dignified farewell to the late Mrs. Obasi.
