Calls for Unity Ahead of 2027 Gubernatorial elections
A frontline aspirant for the Igbo-Etiti East State House of Assembly seat, Barr. Nnanwike Obah, has thrown his weight behind the recent decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to endorse Rt. Hon. Ezenta Ezeani as the party’s candidate for the 2027 elections, calling on his supporters to remain calm, united, and focused.
In a statement issued on Monday, Obah acknowledged the wave of reactions trailing the development, noting that the concerns and disappointment expressed by many of his supporters were understandable given the level of commitment invested in his aspiration.
“I understand your concerns, your questions, and even your disappointment. That is natural, and it reflects the depth of your commitment to the political marathon we embarked on together,” he said.
The legal practitioner confirmed that the party’s leadership had indeed settled for Ezeani, the current Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, as its flag bearer. Despite the unexpected turn, Obah expressed gratitude to his supporters for their loyalty, sacrifice, and belief in his vision for Igbo-Etiti East Constituency.
“You stood by me not because it was easy, but because you believed in our shared vision. You gave your time, energy, resources, and voices. For this, I remain sincerely grateful,” he added.
Obah revealed that his decision to step aside followed extensive consultations and careful reflection, emphasizing that he chose unity over personal ambition.
“I will not proceed in a manner that could create division within our political family or undermine the unity and stability of Enugu State. Leadership is not only about contesting elections; it is also about making difficult decisions in the interest of the greater good,” he stated.
He, however, reassured his political base that his decision does not mark an end to his political journey or commitment to public service. According to him, the movement built around his aspiration remains intact and will continue to pursue meaningful progress for the people.
“What we have built together is far greater than a single election cycle. Our vision remains alive,” Obah affirmed.
Calling for restraint among his followers, he urged them to remain steadfast and avoid actions that could destabilize the party’s structure at the grassroots level.
“Do not lose hope, and do not lose direction. The bonds we have built across our wards and communities will only grow stronger,” he said.
Obah concluded by assuring supporters that they would be kept informed of future political steps, expressing confidence that their sacrifices would ultimately yield positive outcomes.
The development signals a move towards internal cohesion within the APC in Enugu State as preparations gradually build up ahead of the 2027 general elections.
