
The Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Uchenna Okolo, on Thursday, 22nd May 2026, joined family members, traditional rulers, political leaders, and community stakeholders to pay his final respects to His Royal Majesty, Late Igwe P.D. Uzochukwu (JP), Ezeudo I of Mgbidi, Ezechinyelu II, during a solemn and well-attended burial ceremony.

The late monarch, widely respected for his wisdom, cultural leadership, and unwavering commitment to peace and community development, was celebrated as a unifying figure whose reign significantly contributed to the stability and progress of Mgbidi and its environs.

Hon. Okolo described the late Igwe as a pillar of traditional institution whose legacy would continue to inspire future generations. He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, especially Prince Emeka Uzochukwu, Special Personal Assistant (SPA) on Political Matters to the Council Chairman and son of the late monarch.

The ceremony recorded a strong turnout of political stakeholders and representatives from across Awgu LGA and beyond, reflecting the late monarch’s far-reaching influence and the deep respect he commanded in life and in death.

Prominent personalities in attendance included the Deputy Chairman of Awgu LGA, Stanley Ezediuto; Member representing Awgu South State Constituency, Anthony Nwankwo; Hon. Charles Ezenta; and the Chairman of the PDP in Awgu LGA, Kenechukwu Okolo.

Others present were the Chief Security Officer to the Council Chairman, Freedom Okwueri; Hon. Okibe Michael; Prince Tom Onyeagba; Hon. Arthur Okolie; Prince Fidelis Obidinanwa; and several other dignitaries and community stakeholders.

The burial ceremony attracted a large gathering of sympathizers from within and outside the local government area, with tributes emphasizing the late Igwe’s enduring legacy of peace-building, cultural preservation, and unity.
As final rites were observed, the atmosphere remained solemn and reflective, as attendees collectively honoured a royal father whose impact transcended his immediate domain. His passing marks the end of an era, yet his legacy continues to live on in the hearts of his people.
