
The Enugu State Police Command has reiterated the ban on armed escorts and unauthorized security personnel at polling units and other designated election areas ahead of the Enugu North Senatorial Bye-Election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

According to the Commissioner, only police officers and other security personnel officially deployed for election duties will be permitted to operate within and around polling units during the exercise. He emphasized that armed operatives assigned to election security will be restricted to providing outer-cordon security, conducting patrols, and responding to security incidents where necessary.
CP Giwa also restated the restriction of both human and vehicular movements from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day across the six local government areas that make up the Enugu North Senatorial District: Igbo-Etiti, Igbo Eze North, Igbo Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu, and Uzo-Uwani.
He noted that the restriction will not apply to electoral officials, accredited election observers, journalists, and other individuals engaged in verifiable essential duties.
The Police Commissioner warned political parties, candidates, supporters, voters, and residents against any actions capable of disrupting the peaceful conduct of the election, stressing that violators would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
He further urged residents and all stakeholders to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and cooperative throughout the electoral process, while encouraging the prompt reporting of suspicious activities, security threats, and electoral breaches to the nearest police station or other relevant security agencies.
The Enugu State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful, credible, and secure electoral process across the senatorial district.
