The Member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji-River Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to preserving the rich cultural heritage of his constituents by supporting the 2026 Mgbowo Cultural Day, describing culture as an enduring foundation for unity, identity, and sustainable community development.
The federal lawmaker, who was unavoidably absent due to official engagements, was represented at the event by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Hon. Comr. Okpara A. Obinna, alongside one of his supporters and constituents, Hon. Johnbosco Nwankwo.
Held on Saturday, 8 August 2026, at Boys’ Secondary School, Mgbowo, the annual cultural festival attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, Ndi Nze, youths, women, sons and daughters of Mgbowo, as well as other distinguished guests who gathered to celebrate the community’s rich history, customs, traditions, and cultural identity.
Delivering Hon. Onwuegbu’s goodwill message, Hon. Okpara commended the people of Mgbowo for sustaining a cultural festival that continues to strengthen communal bonds, foster unity, and preserve the customs and values that have defined the community for generations.
He stated that Hon. Onwuegbu firmly believes that culture remains a vital pillar of community development and social cohesion, stressing that preserving indigenous traditions is essential to building a society that is proud of its heritage while inspiring younger generations to embrace their identity.
As part of his support for the successful hosting of the festival, Hon. Onwuegbu made a financial contribution towards the event, reaffirming his commitment to initiatives that promote cultural preservation, community development, and the overall progress of the Aninri/Awgu/Oji-River Federal Constituency.
The announcement of the lawmaker’s financial support was greeted with thunderous applause as the mammoth crowd erupted in cheers, expressing appreciation for his continued goodwill and commitment to the people.
Speaking further, Hon. Okpara acknowledged and appreciated the presence of His Royal Majesty, Igwe Greg Ituma, Onyima II of Ekpulato Mgbowo; His Royal Majesty, Igwe John Azubuike Ibeh, Ohabuenyi II of Ekpulambo Mgbowo, who was ably represented by Chief Anthony Udeinya; Ndi Nze Mgbowo Led By Nze Prince Alex Akpa; President General of Ekpulato Mgbowo, Chief Peter Ajah, Deputy Chairman of Awgu LGA, Hon. Dr. Stanley Ezediuto and other respected community leaders and stakeholders whose dedication has continued to strengthen the cultural heritage and traditional institutions of Mgbowo.
He commended the traditional rulers, elders, and organisers for their commitment to preserving the customs and values of the people, describing the annual celebration as an important platform for promoting peace, unity, cultural education, and community development.
He further encouraged the younger generation to remain proud of their cultural identity and to uphold the traditions handed down by their forebears, noting that communities that preserve their heritage are better positioned to build a united, progressive, and prosperous future.
