Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has flagged off the construction of the 3.5-kilometre Awgu–Ugwueme asphalt road, which leads to the Ugwueme Smart Green School in Ugwueme community.

The project marks the formal take-off of the council’s One Ward, One Kilometer Road Initiative, a landmark programme aimed at boosting rural connectivity, improving access to education, opening up economic opportunities, and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents of Awgu.


Speaking at the flag-off, Hon. Okolo explained that Ugwueme was strategically chosen as the starting point because of its educational and economic significance. He assured that similar road projects would soon be rolled out across the remaining wards, leveraging the current break in rainfall to fast-track delivery while maintaining quality standards.

“This initiative is not just about roads; it is about connecting our people to opportunities, education, and economic growth,” he said. “We are determined to complement the visionary agenda of our dear Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose purposeful leadership has redefined grassroots development and inclusive governance in Enugu State.”


The Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to people-centered leadership, with a strong focus on improved infrastructure, quality education, and better living standards for Ndi Awgu.


The flag-off ceremony was attended by political leaders, stakeholders, and community representatives, including the Member Representing Awgu South in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Tony Nwankwo; the Deputy Chairman of Awgu LGA, Dr. Stanley Ezediuto; the Council Secretary, Rt. Hon. Nelson Uduji; Comr. Francis Akpa; and several traditional rulers. They commended Hon. Okolo’s proactive leadership and described the project as a major catalyst for socio-economic growth in Awgu.
