The Enugu State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, has announced a change in date for the official flag-off of its Free Fertilizer and Agricultural Inputs Distribution Programme.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Initially scheduled to hold on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Akpawfu Farm Estate, Nkanu East Local Government Area, the event will now take place on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, by 10:00 a.m.
According to the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Hon. Patrick Nwabueze Ubru, the adjustment was made to ensure wider participation and convenience for farmers and stakeholders across the state.
The programme, to be flagged off by the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, will see the distribution of over 40,000 bags of fertilizers and other essential farm inputs across the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State.
This intervention is designed to:
Boost farm productivity and crop yields.
Increase household income.
Enhance food security and tackle hunger across communities.
It will be recalled that in 2024, the state government distributed more than 12,000 bags of fertilizers free of charge, which resulted in bumper harvests for farmers. Building on that success, this year’s exercise promises to make an even greater impact.
In addition, registered farmers are encouraged to take advantage of the tractor services provided by the state for mechanised farming, in line with the administration’s agricultural modernization drive.
The government has expressed regret over any inconvenience the rescheduling may cause and has reassured farmers of its commitment to supporting agricultural productivity and prosperity across the state.
