The drive to eliminate water scarcity in Awgu Local Government Area has received a major boost as the Executive Chairman, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has extended his flagship Water-for-All Initiative to Ugwueme and Nkwe communities in Anikenano and Ugwueme Ward.

The latest phase of the programme, which has commenced with active drilling operations, raises the number of completed and ongoing solar-powered boreholes to 20 across 20 communities. This milestone highlights Hon. Okolo’s determination to guarantee every household in Awgu access to clean, safe, and sustainable water supply.

Announcing the expansion through his Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, Okolo said the project reflects the inclusive development agenda of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose administration prioritizes equal access to basic amenities in every part of Enugu State.

“Clean and safe water should never be a privilege but a basic right,” Okolo stated. “By bringing this initiative to Ugwueme and Nkwe, we are not just providing water; we are restoring dignity, promoting good health, and driving rural transformation.”

The water project follows closely on the flag-off of the 3.5-kilometre Awgu–Ugwueme Road Project, launched on August 23, 2025. The road, which connects to the Ugwueme Smart Green School, is expected to improve transportation, stimulate local commerce, and enhance educational access, further reinforcing Okolo’s vision for grassroots development and infrastructure renewal.

Residents and traditional leaders in Ugwueme and Nkwe have applauded the initiative, describing it as a “lifeline” that will improve hygiene, strengthen public health, and ease daily living. They commended the chairman’s people-focused leadership for tackling one of the most pressing needs of rural communities.

With 20 solar-powered boreholes now completed or in progress and major infrastructure projects gaining momentum, Hon. Okolo continues to position Awgu as a model for inclusive growth, sustainable development, and transparent governance, in lockstep with Governor Mbah’s transformative vision for Enugu State.
