
The in has begun a three-day intensive training programme aimed at improving the investigative competence of officers and strengthening the management of criminal cases within the command.

The initiative, organized by the Commissioner of Police in the state, , forms part of ongoing efforts to promote professionalism, accountability, and efficiency in policing. The programme brings together investigative officers from across the command to enhance their knowledge and operational skills in modern criminal investigation and prosecution processes.

Participants in the training include Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Divisional Crime Officers, officers of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Inspectors of Crime across various police divisions, as well as personnel serving in other investigative departments within the command.
Speaking during the opening session, the Commissioner of Police, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID, , emphasized the importance of professionalism and diligence in criminal investigations. He urged participants to take the training seriously and maximize the opportunity to upgrade their investigative capabilities.
According to him, the training programme was specifically designed to equip officers with the necessary knowledge and technical skills required to handle investigations effectively and ensure that criminal cases are processed in line with international best practices. He further cautioned that lapses in investigation procedures, poor case documentation, or mishandling of criminal cases would no longer be tolerated in the command.
Throughout the programme, participants are being exposed to key aspects of criminal investigation and prosecution. These include the compilation and vetting of case files, investigation report writing, the protection of suspects’ rights, proper documentation of confessional statements, common lapses in prosecution, plea of justice, as well as the recovery, preservation, and management of exhibits.
To ensure the training delivers practical insights, resource persons were drawn from experienced retired senior police officers and officials from the . Among them are Chief (Barr.) G. N. Okereke (DCP Rtd), DCP (Dr.) Olusoji Akinbayo (Rtd), ACP (Barr.) Agbazue Oge (Rtd), CSP (Dr.) Pascal Nwachukwu (Rtd), and Chief Magistrate Egbo Ngozi.
The facilitators guided participants through real-life investigative scenarios, legal procedures, and documentation standards required for effective case management and successful prosecution in court.
At the end of the sessions, participants expressed satisfaction with the knowledge and professional insights gained during the training. They noted that the programme had strengthened their understanding of investigative procedures and pledged to apply the skills acquired in their daily duties.
The training reflects the commitment of the Enugu State Police Command to improving the quality of criminal investigations, ensuring justice delivery, and building greater public confidence in policing across the state.
