Within one year since assumption of office, the Honourable Member, Representing Aninri, Awgu, and Oji-River Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Honorable Engineer Anayo Onwuegbu has championed three pivotal bills during his first year in office. These bills demonstrate his commitment to enhancing the lives of his constituents.
- Federal Medical Centre Bill (H.B. 1220): Establishes a federal medical facility in Achi, Enugu State, addressing the state’s lack of a federal medical center.
- River Basins Development Authorities Bill (H.B. 1497): Establishes another river basin development authority in the South East, promoting regional development.
- Federal University of Agriculture Bill (H.B. 1558): Proposes a federal university of agriculture in Mmamu Akpugoeze, Enugu State, enhancing agricultural development.
Motions
Honorable Onwuegbu initiated impactful motions:
- Addressing Flooding: Urgent intervention for Mpu, Okpanku, and other communities affected by the uncompleted Ivo Earth Dam.
- Infrastructure Development: Completion and rehabilitation of Oji-River-Awgu-Ndeaboh road.
- Water Supply: Completion of Greater Oji-River Dam and water supply project.
- Vocational Training: Engagement of inmates in vocational skills acquisition.
- Palm Oil Production: Promotion and revitalization of palm oil production.
- Boundary Dispute Resolution: Determination of natural boundaries between Enugu and Anambra communities.
Petitions
Honorable Onwuegbu presented a petition on behalf of the family of Late Kingsley Aguwana, extra-judicially killed by policemen from Unity Police Division Nike, Enugu.
Constituency Projects
Security and Infrastructure Development: In this regard, Hon. Onwuegbu has made significant strides in infrastructural development, overseeing the construction of over 340 solar-powered street lights across the constituency. He additionally initiated a 3km road construction project in Oji River LGA to control erosion and flood, and he also completed a 1.5km asphalt road around the St. Michael Church, Akpugoeze.
Education Empowerment
Recognizing the importance of education in empowering future generations, Hon. Onwuegbu launched NTI (NCE) and PGDE education empowerment programs, to enhance Constituents’ skills, as well as knowledge, Distribution of Sports Skits across Primary Schools in greater Awgu.
Water
Water scarcity was addressed by Hon. Onwuegbu the initiative construction of three solar-powered boreholes in Oji River LGA.
Healthcare Delivery
Hon. Onwuegbu is still poised to ensure hospital construction cum rehabilitation for Constituents’ access to prompt quality Healthcare delivery, including donation of solar powered inverter at ESUT teaching hospital annexed at Nnenwe.
Farmers / Economic Empowerment
Hon. Onwuegbu’s farmers Empowerment cut across all the wards in greater Awgu as he distributed 600 bags of fertilizers to rural farmers to subsidize Agricultural produce, aiding Agro-commercialization. Total commitment in this vital area by Hon. Onwuegbu, is not farfetched, as he has mounted plans to execute ‘indigent traders cash empowerment program’ underway in October for supporting small scale businesses, upcoming entrepreneurs and looking-to- expand business owners towards poverty eradication and the boost of economic growth.
Social responsibility
Ugwuoba town hall, Akpugoeze bridge, Ozom bridge Aguabosi, Ugwueme emergency road repairs, ongoing construction 6 class room block at Awgu Boys Secondary School, Awgu.
