The Awgu Games Village, once a hub for sporting excellence, has been abandoned for several years, leaving its infrastructure in disrepair. However, Governor Mbah has expressed a strong vision to restore and modernize the facility, ensuring it serves as a beacon for sports development and youth empowerment.

During a recent visit to the Games Village, Governor Mbah was accompanied by top government officials, including the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Lloyd Ike Ekweremmadu; the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Engr. Gerald Otiji; and the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Dame Barr. Ugochi Madueke.

The revitalization project aims to provide world-class sporting facilities, create job opportunities, and foster a thriving sports culture in the state. It also aligns with the administration’s broader agenda to harness the potential of Enugu’s youths, promote sports as a tool for economic growth, and encourage community development.

According to Dr. Stanley Uchenna Ezediuto, Deputy Chairman of Awgu Local Government, the project is a significant step towards transforming Enugu State and providing a brighter future for its youths, athletes, and local economy.

“We express our profound gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah for his vision and dedication to transforming Awgu and the entire Enugu State,” Ezediuto said. “The Awgu Local Government leadership remains committed to supporting this project and ensuring that the Awgu Games Village regains its lost glory.”
