On 21st August 2025, at about 9:30 a.m., operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team arrested Eze Obinna (44), Jideofor Igwumba (35), and Martina Okwor Ada (49). The suspects were found in possession of a Toyota Kluger (Highlander SUV), stolen from Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, on 21st July 2025, refurbished, and reportedly prepared for sale in Awka, Anambra State.

Earlier, on 19th August 2025, at about 1:30 a.m., operatives attached to Ozalla Division intercepted a gang of suspected criminals along the Udi/Ozalla Road. Somadina Udeh (26) was arrested while other members escaped. The gang’s operational vehicle, a Toyota Hiace bus with Delta registration number ASB 108 YF, was recovered. Another Toyota Hiace bus with Ebonyi registration number AKL 163 YU, previously stolen from Amokwe in Udi LGA, was abandoned by fleeing suspects. Interrogation revealed that the gang routinely infiltrated Enugu from Anambra State to steal goods from shops, which were later sold in Anambra.

On 12th August 2025, at about 5:30 a.m., the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Chigozie Ebisike (42) in Ogui, Enugu. The suspect also led police to two additional vehicles: a gold Toyota Sienna minivan (Lagos reg. BDG 935 GP) and a black Lexus 350 (Enugu reg. UWN 762 AH), as well as several vehicle registration particulars, keys, and number plates.

In another breakthrough on 8th August 2025, the Crack Tactical Squad, acting on intelligence, arrested three men: Nwafor Chinenye (35), Chidera Ezeoha (32), and Ekete Joseph (41). Their arrest followed a report of an armed robbery on 7th August 2025 at Amokpu-Nike, Enugu East LGA, where a Carter Tec Super motorcycle and a Samsung Galaxy S8 phone were snatched. Both motorcycles were recovered from the suspects, who had displayed them for sale at Ogbeke-Nike, Enugu East LGA. The suspects have been arraigned and remanded in a correctional facility.

The remaining arrested suspects are expected to be arraigned in court following ongoing investigations, while efforts continue to apprehend fleeing gang members and recover additional stolen property.

Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, commended the operatives for their gallantry and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or distress situations to the Police.
