PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS TO EMBARK ON FREE AND COMPULSORY COMPUTER TRAINING EXERCISE

The Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), in collaboration with the Society of Professional Teachers in computer education, will commence a computer training exercise for all public primary school teachers in the state.

Speaking during the sensitization meeting with Association of Heads of all Primary Schools in the State, , the State school Improvement Team,( SSIT) School Support Officers (SSOs) and Local Government Administrators in all the 17 LGAs of the State, the Head of Department of Teachers Professional Development Barr Andy Nwani charged all the participants to take the training programme seriously and equip them selves with the skills and confidence to integrate technolugy effectively into the teaching profession.

He reiterated that digital literacy is no longer optional but essential, stating that the computer training is designed to empower teachers with practical digital skills from basic computer operations and Internet use to creating digital lesson plans, using interactive learning platforms, and exploring online assessment tools. He therefore thanked the organizers of the programme for finding Enugu State worthy of teachers’ Improvement in computer Education without charging a dime.

In his speech, the coordinator of the Society of Professional Teachers in Computer Education in Nigeria, Engr Princewill Nse said that the two-month ICT training was designed to help teachers in the State to be computer literate and also update their knowledge on computers.

Engr Nse explained that the training, which is for all primary school teachers in the state, is compulsory and therefore urged the participants to take the exercise seriously to justify their participation in the programme.

He stated that there is no limit to Computer Education/Knowledge, adding that the exercise will centre on both practical and theoretical aspects to enable participants to acquire the needed knowledge to be ICT compliant.

According to Engr Nse, the training programme, which is at no cost, is being facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Organization of Computer Education in all the States of the Federation.

In her remarks, the Desk Officer Teachers’ Professional Development Mrs Ezugwu Benedette said that the ICT Sensitization meeting was organized for selected State School Improvement Team (SSIT), School Support Officers (SSOs) Association of Heads of all Primary Schools in the State, and Local Government Admin Officers from the 17 local government Areas in the state.

Mrs Ezugwu urged the participants that, as major stakeholders, as the state migrates to Smart Green Schools, they should take the exercise seriously to be able to gather all the needed knowledge they will take back to their various local government Areas/ Schools.

She also explained that the ICT training proper will commence from the 10th of November 2025 to January 23rd 2026 with a few weeks’ break during the festivities. Mrs Ezugwu also reminded them that they will be held responsible for any lapses in the implementation of the training program in their various centres and that the exercise will be held twice a week and will last for two hours, from 2pm to 4pm each day.

She also reminded them that attendance is mandatory and very critical as records of such will be kept.

In a vote of thanks, one of the participants, Dr. Ernest Chime, thanked the State Governor, Barr Peter Mbah, for his special interest in the promotion of Education in general and Basic Education in particular in the State.

Dr Chime described the ICT training programme as a welcome development that would help Primary School teachers in the State to migrate fully to the Smart Green Schools that have taken off in the state.

He therefore appreciated the Organizers and facilitators of the programme and promised that they would mobilize their teachers to participate in the training in their various centers in all the Local Government Areas in the State for a better result.
