Enugu State Government Opens 2025 Scholarship Applications for Indigenes

The Enugu State Government has officially announced the commencement of applications for the 2025 Scholarship Awards, an initiative designed to support the educational aspirations of Enugu indigenes across different academic levels.

The programme, approved by the State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and managed by the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board under the Ministry of Education, is a major step toward strengthening human capital development in the state.

According to the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze L. Mbah, the scheme reflects the administration’s commitment to building a knowledge-driven and productive society where education remains a top priority.

The scholarship opportunity is part of Governor Mbah’s visionary effort to ensure that every qualified Enugu student has access to quality education, regardless of financial background.

Scholarship Categories

The 2025 Scholarship Awards cover three main categories:

1. Undergraduate Scholarship: 500 slots for 100 and 200 level students enrolled in accredited tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

2. Teachers’ Scholarship: 1,000 slots for indigenous teachers in Enugu State Government schools who wish to pursue Master’s degrees. Beneficiaries must commit to teaching in state-owned schools for at least ten years after the award.

3. Postgraduate Scholarship: 100 slots for students pursuing Master’s or PhD programmes in Nigerian universities.

Eligibility and Application Requirements

Applicants must be confirmed indigenes of Enugu State and must possess valid admission into a Nigerian university or other recognized tertiary institution for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Required documents include:

LGA Identification Letter

Admission Letter and Letter of Acceptance

Attestation Letter from the applicant’s Traditional Ruler

Passport photograph

(For teachers) Employment Letter in addition to the above documents

Application Process

Interested candidates are to visit the official application portal at https://apply.esselb.en.gov.ng , select one scholarship category, and upload all required documents in a single PDF file not exceeding 2MB.

Applications open on November 14, 2025, and close at 12:00 a.m. on November 28, 2025, for undergraduate and postgraduate applicants, while teachers’ applications will close on December 8, 2025.

Screening and Examination

The selection process includes an online Computer-Based Test (CBT), allowing candidates to participate remotely from any location. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for the exam.

Visually impaired students and students with disabilities, especially those in 100 and 200 levels, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Prof. Mbah reminded applicants that incomplete documentation would lead to automatic disqualification, as the process is strictly merit-based and handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
