R-Linders Triumph in Intense Shootout to Win 2025 ICAP New Haven League as Igwe Adinde Promises Bigger 2026 Edition

R-Linders FC have been crowned champions of the 2025 ICAP New Haven League after defeating Clemsiyke FC 10–9 on penalties in a tense and emotionally charged finale at the New Haven Primary School field in Enugu.

The final, witnessed by an enthusiastic crowd, remained tightly contested throughout regulation time, with neither side able to break the deadlock. The match ultimately proceeded to a nerve-racking penalty shootout that stretched beyond the routine five kicks. R-Linders showed greater composure in the decisive moments to seal the victory and earn the ₦300,000 winners’ prize, while Clemsiyke FC settled for the ₦200,000 runners-up reward.

Individual brilliance also took centre stage during the awards segment of the finale. Precious Agu finished as the Highest Goal Scorer, Chimezie Ani was voted the Most Valuable Player, and Onah Chinedu clinched the Best Goalkeeper honour. All three standout performers were rewarded with cash prizes for their exceptional contributions to the tournament.

This year’s competition featured six teams grouped as follows: Group A consisted of Clement Iyke FC, Gwadangwa FC, City Boys, while Group B comprised R-Linders FC, Parliament FC, Omega FC.

The ICAP New Haven League, now regarded as a major grassroots football event in Enugu, received sponsorship from Igwe Chibuzeze Adinde, who expressed deep satisfaction with the tournament’s success and its positive impact on the youth.

“New Haven is my community; this is where I reside. They are part of me, and I’m part of them,” Igwe Adinde said after the final match. “It’s not a big deal; it’s part of our routine activities every year. It’s a thing of joy seeing the youth rejoice because I’m also a youth. So when they rejoice, I also rejoice.”

Looking towards the future, he assured the community of an even more improved and expanded edition in 2026, promising enhancements across all aspects of the league’s organization.

“Any day, anytime, we have plans to continue and we’re going to do it better,” he pledged.

The thrilling finale brought the curtain down on a spirited, competitive, and entertaining tournament, reinforcing the ICAP New Haven League’s reputation as one of Enugu’s most vibrant and impactful grassroots football competitions.
