
The 7th Ofala Festival of His Royal Majesty, Igwe Okey Ogbodo, the traditional ruler of Ikem Uno Autonomous Community, Isi Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, commenced on Monday, 29th, amid colourful fanfare and rich cultural pageantry.

The opening ceremony, held at Central School, Ikem Uno, was officially declared open by His Royal Highness, Igwe Samuel Asadu (Ogadagidi of Edem Ani), the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers’ Council. The event featured vibrant cultural displays, traditional dances and performances that added colour and glamour to the celebration.
Highlights of the day included the presentation of motorcycles donated by prominent sons of Ikem Uno, as well as the grand finale of the community football competition, which kicked off at 4:00 pm at the same venue. The ceremonial kick-off was performed by Igwe Asadu.
Speaking at the event, the Enugu State Chairman of the Traditional Rulers’ Council stressed the urgent need for cultural and value reorientation in Nigeria, noting that such efforts are essential to positively redirect the mindset and skills of the youth.
He commended Igwe Ogbodo for deliberately integrating youth-focused programmes, including the football competition and a seminar on the dangers of drug abuse, into the 7th Ofala celebration. He expressed delight at being part of the opening ceremony and pledged his support for the football competition.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Igwe Okey Ogbodo described Ogadagidi as a trusted friend and ally, whose leadership as Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers’ Council has been a source of inspiration to him and many others.
The monarch thanked Igwe Asadu for honouring the invitation despite his tight schedule, describing his presence as a clear demonstration of love and deep regard for the people of Ikem Uno and Isi Uzo at large.
The 7th Ofala Festival continues with a series of cultural, social and community development activities aimed at promoting unity, preserving tradition and empowering the youth.
