The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter, has debunked as false and misleading a report circulating on social media alleging that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah made disparaging remarks about the 17 elected Local Government Chairmen in the state.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In a statement issued on Tuesday, ALGON described the claim as entirely fabricated, stressing that no such meeting took place at the Government House and that the governor never expressed regret over the emergence of the council chairmen. The association also dismissed allegations that Governor Mbah accused the chairmen of mismanaging funds, indiscriminately suspending councillors, or acting without regard for humanity.
According to ALGON, Governor Mbah has maintained a cordial and collaborative relationship with the chairmen since their inauguration in September 2024, consistently commending their contributions to the advancement of his administration’s vision for sustainable grassroots development.
The association noted that the local government chairmen have continued to align with state policies, particularly in the areas of full remittance of statutory allocations, infrastructure development, including road construction, and the implementation of community-based programmes across the 17 local councils.
ALGON further referenced recent public endorsements by its leaders and other stakeholders, including the Enugu State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, who have acknowledged the strong working relationship between the state government and the local councils, as well as the visible impact of ongoing projects across the state.
Describing the circulating report as a deliberate attempt to sow discord within the state’s governance structure, ALGON said the misinformation was aimed at distracting the public from the ongoing transformation agenda of the Mbah administration.
The association urged members of the public to disregard the report and rely solely on information from credible and official sources.
ALGON reaffirmed its commitment to sustained cooperation with the Enugu State Government in promoting development and improving the welfare of residents at the grassroots level.
